It was Monday. First day in school. But before we took off, we needed to prepare ourselves. Mrs Smeets told us that Malta doesn’t have a lot of water supply and we need to be very careful. If a part of the island uses too much water, the government will cut the water from this area. An other thing about water : a lot of houses are not equiped with central heating, so the water is sun heated. We need to be prepared if we take a shower at the end of the day because the temperature can reach up to 90°C she said.

8h30 (am), we started our first English class. Nothing really crazy about it : in my class there are 9 people (4 from France, 4 from Japan and 1 from Italy) .

This same day, at night, we took a bus to visit a bunch of cities. They are all stuck together in what remains from the defenses built back when Christianism owned the island. The Knights of St. John is the group who has owned the place for many years. We can see the remains of the Order with their star on some buildings and boats and the billion of churches around the island.

Two fun facts that we learned from the tour:

  • The Christian destroyed every traces of islam, however the native language is based on Arabic (60%), we have seen only one mosque on the tour (built 40 Y ago). It appears that there were more, but the Order destroyed them.
  • For WWI, they built a really really big cannon but it was so heavy that it needed 6 min to load and couldn’t even be aimed at a target. So nobody ever used it.

Here are some pictures taken this day :
